Disclaimer: The following article contains spoilers for the new comedy-horror Netflix show Wednesday. If you are intending to watch the series, reader discretion is advised.

Wednesday Addams is a widely known character from the hit series and movies surrounding the unusual family dynamic of The Addams Family, with the franchise dating back to 1964. Originally announced in October 2020 as an unnamed Addams Family project by Tim Burton, Wednesday wasn’t officially announced until February 2021.

The cast is very well put together, with Jenna Ortega (Wednesday Addams), Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia Addams), Luiz Guzmán (Gomez Addams), and Isaac Ordonez (Pugsley Addams) portraying the notorious family.

This series has been long awaited, and now that it is released fans have a lot to say about it. But before hearing from viewers of the series, some intel on what happens in the first season of Wednesday

Due to expulsion for inflicting revenge on Pugsley’s bullies, Wednesday is sent to Nevermore Academy, a school for outcasts of society. Coincidentally enough, Morticia and Gomez both attended Nevermore Academy. She arrives and meets her new eccentric roommate, Enid, who is a late-blooming werewolf. Their personalities immediately clash, for obvious reasons. Wednesday meets Nevermore’s reigning queen bee, Bianca, who has her own dark secrets.

As she settles in at Nevermore, almost immediately, strange things start happening at Nevermore upon Wednesday’s arrival. A mysterious serial killing monster in the woods, later known as a Hyde, has begun attacking innocent citizens of Jericho. Wednesday begins investigating the mysteries surrounding the killings. While the plot complicates and thickens, adding twisted romances, a school dance, family secrets coming to light, and a bunch of dark humor, the series has quite a shocking ending.

A fan of the show, Hailey Magasark, gave a promising review of the new show. Magasark watched the series a few days after it was released. She, like most viewers, was very taken aback by the plot twists.

She said, “I think I was most shocked when Ms. Thornhill was revealed as the one controlling the Hyde. I did not expect Principal Weems to be a shapeshifter, or how she used it to trick Ms. Thornhill.”

Magasark has been a longtime fan of The Addams Family franchise, though she heard about the series, she didn’t really know what to expect going into watching it.

Magasark said, “I didn’t really know much about the series before it came out, my friend told me about it after she watched it.”

Broadening the opinions about the new show, an anonymous commenter on Rotten Tomatoes had to say, “The show definitely follows the Tim Burton Trope, and a lot of great actors were included. Minimal culture-war type stuff, but still present.”

Now available for watching for weeks now, Wednesday still holds a high spot in the Top 10 Series ranking on Netflix. Wednesday has dark, somewhat twisted comedy, mystery, horror, and family values.

Wrapping up this review, with many people already finished with watching the new series, numerous fans are asking when Wednesday will return for a second season. Personally, I thought the series was very well done. Check out the new Addams Family spinoff series, Wednesday, out now on Netflix!
