Lake Shore High School’s wrestling team hopes to start and end strong this season. The coaches and wrestlers hope to make it to states and go for the win.
Tanner Konal, assistant wrestling coach, thinks the season will go well and that they could possibly go to states. They’ve been practicing hard for their tournament and giving it their all. Konal talks about the weaknesses and strengths of the team and how he thinks that the season will go.
Konal says, “Strength of the team? I’d probably say our teamwork and how wrestlers show their love for the sport they’re doing.”
He goes on to say how he thinks they’ll do for the season. “I think the season will go good. The wrestlers are working harder and showing more effort in what they’re doing.”
Ben James is a sophomore on the varsity wrestling team. He’s been wrestling for two years. He’s excited to be on the wrestling team to see how far he can go and how well he can do this year.
James stated that his strength for wrestling is his “speed,” but for a weakness, he said that his “hair sometimes gets in the way”
James has high hopes for the wrestling team this year and hopes to make it to regionals.
Aiden Coleman is also on the varsity wrestling team and is a sophomore. He’s been wrestling for about 3 years. One of the main reason he joined wrestling was because of his friends.
Coleman said, “I think my strength is that I can fluctuate my weights whenever it’s needed.”
Coleman then stated that his weakness is bottom. Coleman thinks the season will go pretty well. He says “Honestly, even when we get to leagues, at the end of the season we’ll be a top-eight team in the state.”
This season there’s been new freshmen to join the team and TraShawn Rogers-Conley is one of them.
Conley joined wrestling because he needed something to do in the off-season of his other sports. He finds wrestling to be a good sport to do to keep your body up.
He states, “I honestly did it for the conditioning. I needed something to do in the offseason.”
Conley is on the varsity football team, so when the season ended he started looking for something to do after. When he found out about wrestling he knew he would do it.
Lake Shore’s wrestling team has very high hopes for their season. They plan to make it to regionals and qualify for states. As long as they keep working hard at practice, work on partnership, and keep good spirits, they will have a great season.
