The Lake Shore High School track team has been going through a huge drought for the past few years until last year. Many previous runners have high hopes for the season as well as the coaches.
What made us so much more skilled as a team was because of the coaches recruiting the right runners for many different events and made us be well rounded in sprinters, field events and long distance. The coaches made sure to have more intense workouts. These last few years have been all about rebuilding and trying to be the best they can be.
Both track coaches had many things to say about this upcoming season and how they feel the results will come out.
Track coach here at Lake Shore High School, Christopher Mantela, stated, “ We have new qualifying standards, and we have four attempts for athletes to qualify for state finals.”
Mantela had many exciting things to say about this upcoming season, even mentioning new people that will fit in well with the relays. Mantela has always tried his best to help the younger runners fit into the team and get better, so next year they know what to expect.
Mantela also stated,” We lost a few people last year for our main events, but I hope we can find good spots for them quickly.”
With our Middle School team being undefeated last year, we are looking forward to seeing if we can find the right fit with the many kids we have trying out.
Jacqueline Phillips stated, “We are trying to break more records and bring some more guys to success this year.”
Even after losing people from last year’s team, Mantela still has a lot of hope for this year. Both coaches are looking forward to breaking even more records this year rather than last year.Last year’s varsity team broke 2 school records, with both of them being relay groups.
Phillips has always been a coach to push people to be the best they can on and off the track and always wanted runners to succeed.
Phillips also said, “I’m looking forward to some younger guys coming to fill out the team as well.”
Overall Both coaches are willing to go hard this season. The coaches are also really confident in bringing many people to states and regionals this year and are very excited for this upcoming season.
