Morbid Massacre, who plans to release their first EP this spring, has been gaining popularity amongst students and teachers at Lake Shore High School.
During his freshman year, Donovan Ripari, front man, formed a band with a few of his friends and classmates.
“…It was my freshman year, and I started with completely different people. It was back when I first started playing guitar and I was like.. Dude, being in a band would be so dope,” Ripari says.
Ripari found other Shorians who taken interest, making their garage a place to jam.
“Right now, we have Michael DeWaele on drums. Jameson Adams, he’s in band, he’s on bass, and then Aiden Streeter, who recently graduated, on rhythm guitar, and then obviously, me, on lead guitar and vocals,” Ripari said.
Adams has only been in the band since January 5th, after joining a rehearsal with the other band members. Even though Adams has been playing guitar longer than bass, he took his musical knowledge to pick up the 4-stringed instrument as well.
DaWaeles love for music has made him want to start practicing with his friends, hopefully making his own songs. He’s been playing drums for four and a half years and for the most part, he is self taught but has taken a few lessons to improve his skills.
Inspiration plays a big role in creating and starting a band as many artists have someone who influenced them to start their music career.
“Well, there are a lot of artists that inspired me to play music. Primus, Nine Inch Nails, Placebo still gives me inspiration, but one of the big ones…One of my biggest influences was Danzig and Moody Blues, I’d say,” Adams replies.
“We took a lot of inspiration from Metallica, Municipal Waste, solely for their energy cause not only was their music really good but the way they performed it live was really fun and really interesting,” Ripari says.
“My biggest influence is Travis Barker from Blink-182, and then The Rev from Event Sevenfold, Vinnie Paul from Pantera, Luke Collin..I just wanted to become a drummer.” DaWaele says.
With their inspirations being heavy metal and rock bands, the music they play is called Thrash Metal, which is a type of heavy metal.
Music processing can take up a lot of time. It took only until recently for their home recording studio to get up and running.
“..Up until this point, we’ve only been able to release, like, really crappy recorded garage demos on Youtube, but now that we have our recording equipment, we’re pushing out a single in the next couple weeks on spotify,” Ripari elaborates.
The initial single will be the first song that Ripari and DeWaele had ever written together, named “Moral Mother.” Later down the line, the band will be releasing an EP.
You can continue to keep up with the journey of Morbid Massacre through their many social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and soon to be Spotify.
