Notorious rap artist Playboi Carti, who hasn’t had an album drop since Whole Lotta Red, which released on December 25, 2020, and debuted at number one on the billboard 200 chart, drops MUSIC. A 30 song album seeing features from artists such as Travis Scott, The Weeknd, Lil Uzi Vert, Jhené Aiko, Kendrick Lamar, Young Thug, and many more.
Just 11 days later after the MUSIC drop on March 14th, the deluxe version, MUSIC: SORRY 4 DA WAIT, released on March 25th.
Carti’s fans give their insights on the album
Brandon Davis, freshman, said, “It was the weakest album he has produced. There were like 5 songs out of 30 that were good; I was better off listening to my little cousin make a song.”
Kefon Brown, junior, said, “The album was 30 out of 30. It was a grace to the ears. I absolutely loved the album, and I couldn’t help but salivate over it.”
However, However, similar to other fans of mainstream artists, Brown was uplifting his true opinion on the album.
“It was definitely not worth the 5-year wait; it was mad underwhelming. The album was really a 2/30, only 2 good songs without the atrocious adlibs,” Brown added
Brown, even being one of the biggest Carti glazers known to man, had a distaste to the album. Making fans wait years upon years to release the same music you have been releasing has left some fans bothered and possibly not wanting to listen to the album as much.
Although, it’s not technically Playboi Carti’s responsibility to release music for the fan. The promises to release music but not doing it for years has definitely left some fans upset.
Collin Kassin, junior, said, “It was worth the wait. A lot of songs and I thought it was great.”
“It exceeded my expectations,” Kassin added
The wait made fans expect a lot more than Carti was going to release. Having been almost an entire 5 years since his previous album, fans expectations were sky high. While some fans high expectations over the wait were not met, some fans such as Kassin, were met and surpassed as his classic Playboi Carti sound is still amazing to so many fans.
Alongside the many talented features on all of the tracks, was an extremely talented list of producers who worked on the songs, such as Kanye West, Southside, Metro Boomin, and much more. The production of an album helps a lot for the overall rating of the album.
Although some fans may not like the album, Playboi Carti is a marketing genius, as 7/10 of his popular songs on Spotify are from the recent album. Although they are not his most popular songs, they are quickly gaining traction with some seeing up to 80 million plus streams in just around three weeks.
