The Shorians here at Lake Shore express what trends they thought were cool and which they thought were cringe, including trends they may have participated in.
Senior Sophia Garman says, “I’ve participated in the 2000’s fashion trends, like low rise jeans, the baggy jeans, and outfits like that. I like how everyone has different styles that can resemble different generations now too.”
Junior Amaria Goodwin says, “One trend I like is the alternative style of fashion, and I’ve seen more and more people with that style.”
Some trends have a great impact on fashion, and social media’s influence gives people inspiration on how to dress.
Some fashion trends didn’t quite make it very long such as the Panda Dunks.
“A trend I found bad was the Panda Dunks because people were all wearing the same shoes and it got boring,” says Goodwin.
There were also some trends that started off really good but took a turn for the worst.
Sophomore Mason Smith says, “I think that water wars were all fun and games at first until people were crashing into other cars and almost getting arrested.”
Goodwin says, “A trend that ended badly was the devious licks because it started off with small, inanimate objects and then it became toilets, sinks, soap dispensers, and just things we actually need in the school.”
There have been many trends over the years, some good others not so good. Most of these trends begin with social media.
Senior Jimmy Sheen says, “To be quite honest, I think social media gives stupid people too much power, because there’s some people that really shouldn’t have a platform and they do, and people start listening to them and believing them on a lot of things, when we really shouldn’t because people only listen to them because they have a lot of followers.”
“People will post what they’re wearing and what’s cool and what’s popular; especially on Tik Tok. Once people start seeing one cool person do something they all start doing it and everyone starts looking copy and paste,” says senior Addison Bondy
Social media’s influence on people continues to grow and goes out to a mass of different people according to everyone’s specific personalized algorithms.
Sophomore Marcus Hart says, “When people see things on social media or see their friends doing something, they are more inclined to do it as well.”
The trends here at Lake Shore over the years showcase a fascinating blend of influences that shape our student experience.
