As spring sports start up, there are new teams with new dynamics. Specifically, Junior, Grace VanDenstorm, is a new goalkeeper for the Lake Shore Girls’ Soccer Team.
Coach Christopher Gwozdz influenced Vandenstorm into this role. VanDenstorm said, “I didn’t really have any sports for the spring because I have fall and winter sports.”
VanDenstorm already plays volleyball and basketball taking up her schedule through the fall and winter months. Soccer is a new addition.
VanDenstorm had thought first had a different take on joining the team as she said, “I was like, no way. Why would I ever do that?”
It is hard to start something new, with a new group of people, especially when it comes to sports and the way the group blends. It makes it a little tougher when the group has already become a team, and it’s like you’re joining a new friend group.
VanDenstorm said, “Well, no, not really my first time; I played when I was like seven.”
Something from long ago is a memory pushed in the back of your brain waiting to be remembered. VanDenstorm had to think deeply trying to remember those skills learned years ago, along with learning the new rules and plays.
VanDenstorm said, “I had to learn a lot more rules and directions.”
From the views of her classmates, VanDenstorm is a good listener and able to pick up directions quickly, whether it be in sports or academically.
When approached about the topic of playing her senior year, VanDenstorm said, “I have to see how the season goes to see if I’ll do it again.”
As it is still the beginning of the girls’ soccer season the girls are at a 3-2 win to lose, as they still have many more on the schedule.
