Shorians have adored hall monitor Jeff Valken for the last 7 years. Now, there is someone new to treasure. Valken’s wife, Julie Valken, now graces Lake Shore’s halls.
Jeff Valken now has a run for his money being a favored monitor here at Lake Shore. He said, “We interact differently with the students, kind of like good cop/bad cop.”
This almost seems like a parental situation playing good cop/bad cop, Jeff Valken described himself as the bad cop, Julie Valkin didn’t even have to guess which one she was.
Emma Stacy, senior, described them and said, “Julie is the sweetest, just meeting her she is always so sweet and tries to instruct people in a nice way. Jeff is also super friendly and sweet, but if he needs to he will put his foot down.”
Many students feel the same way, enjoying being in the halls as they make it a pleasant space to walk through. Their sweet yet still rule-abiding selves make this a comfortable place to be.
This is not the first time they have worked together. These two have known each other for 13 years, but without knowing they worked over 10 more years without crossing paths you could say it was an invisible string theory.
As it is working with anyone, there can be perks and disadvantages but all the Valkens had to say was how nice and convenient it was to get to be in the same building. Debriefing after a long day, getting to see each other just for a moment. Knowing for most that would put a smile on one’s face, it seems to for them. Julie Valken said, “Up is that I see him cause he is so cute, there is no down.”
Overall working in the same place for the Valkens seems to be something they both enjoy. Not only are the two well respected, but they are also well-loved. Jeff and Julie Valken are just two amazing people who make Lake Shore High School more enjoyable.
