Sophia VanDenstorm, a junior at Lake Shore High School, has recently developed a new hobby, vlogging. It started as a school project but has now progressed into one of her favorite hobbies.
VanDenstorm originally made these vlogs for a 20-time project in precalc. The 20-time project is when students choose something they want to improve on or learn and dedicate 20% of their time to carrying out that activity.
She said, “ Creators like Quentin Blackwell and others have inspired the style of my vlogs.”
VanDenstorm keeps her vlogs upbeat, funny, lively, and original. Although other creators might inspire her, she tries to keep it fresh. Moreover, VanDenstorm has many features within her vlog.
VanDenstorm also includes other Shorians in her vlog. She said, “Carly Best is the most featured on the vlogs. I love hanging out with her. We go to a lot of the same events and she is on the volleyball team with me.”
The relationship between VanDenstorm and Best is truly shown within these vlogs. No matter how busy these two are, they always make time for each other.
VanDenstorm is a student-athlete, a 4.0 student, as well as a travel athlete. VanDenstorm is often out of school for days on end, traveling around the US to pursue her dream of becoming a D1 softball player. Due to her busy schedule, she often gets stressed about not being able to edit and post her weekly vlogs.
VanDenstorm exclaimed, “One of the hardest problems is that I still have to post a vlog every Friday for my vlog even when I am super busy that week and haven’t had enough time to edit so I have to take 2 hours out of any free time I have to finish the vlog for the viewers”.
Although her tight schedule does not always make it easy for her to make these videos, she still puts them out for her fans. VanDenstorm said, “I love making these videos and having people excited to have them come out. Anytime I make someone laugh with my vlog, it is a job well done. I just want to bring happiness to all of my vlogs. The work for them is hard but the outcome is rewarding”.
VanDenstorm loves this new hobby that was once started as a school project and now plans to continue creating these videos and bringing joy to the people who watch her vlogs.
