As the final days of the school year slip away and graduation caps soar into the sky, one of the names that continues to echo through the halls of Lake Shore High School is Genny Zielinski—not for the titles she’s held or the trophies she’s won, but for the indelible mark she’s left on everyone around her.
Zielinski, a graduating senior, has been a vibrant force throughout the school community. She is the color guard captain, winter guard co-captain, vice president of student congress, member of the Fusion Choir, participant in the school musicals and stage crew, college ambassador, National Honor Society member, teacher cadet, and AP student. Her list of contributions is long, but what truly defines her is her character.
Known for her bubbly personality and radiant kindness, Zielinski is the kind of person who lights up a room and lifts up those around her. Whether leading a team, lending a hand backstage, or simply sharing a smile in the hallway, she leads with heart. A true jack of all trades, Zielinski always puts others first and gives her all to everything she does.
This fall, Zielinski will attend Oakland University to pursue a degree in secondary education, focusing on English Language Arts.
Zielinski said, “The thing that I’ll miss most about high school is the groups that I am a part of. Environments like guard, choir, stuco, and the musical are irreplaceable and were the reason that high school was so fun. The people I’ve met through these activities are ones that I’ll hold bonds with for the rest of my life. These activities made every day worthwhile.”
Zielinski has a lot to look back on as she progresses to life’s next chapter.
She said, “-If I had advice for freshmen, I would say to talk to your teachers. They may seem intimidating, but if you speak with them, ask questions, and treat them like a human being, you can create good bonds with them. It makes classes more fun, and you can learn tons of life lessons if you listen!”
When Zielinski was asked about what she learned from high school, she said, “Something that I have learned in my time here is to be kind to everyone, regardless of any other factors. the bonds you can create by simply smiling at someone in the hallway or making little conversations are pivotal and help add to the high school experience. It has also taught me that having a positive outlook on life leads to overall happiness. If you look at things optimistically and with an open mind, situations won’t be as bad as they seem, and your morale will be higher, allowing you to enjoy life. “
It is clear what kind of character Zielinski is, bringing joy wherever she goes; it would be hard not to miss her when she leaves and pursues her dreams.
