Imagine seeing everyone on the planet with the same exact clothing style, everywhere you stepped. Looking around, you’d see it’s a boring and bland world. Finding a unique and different personal style is an important part of expressing one’s self.
For an example, Isabella Mirabito, who is a senior at Lake Shore, says she changes her style based off her mood of the day. She never tends to stick to the same one, as it may seem boring for her. Most of her clothes are from thrift stops, malls and online stores.
Mirabito finds her inspiration from the internet or the people around her whether it’s someone from school or if she happens to see someone out walking down the street. Her style has also changed as she grew older, representing herself as her true self, trying to fit in with her surrounding classmates.
“I believe style can be taught, but to find your own unique style is something you have to play around with,” Mirabito says.
As Mirabito seems to change her style almost everyday, Conner Carney tends to stick to a y2k, McBling style, which is a 2000s style. He sometimes has a different style, going for a more girly y2k look, or maybe not even a hint y2k in a specific look. He has a mix of clothing that he finds, putting the pieces together to make his fashionable outfits.
Carney found the Y2K/Mcbling style from someone on the internet when he saw someone wearing the look in his
sophomore year. He thought it was such a cool style, he said, ‘Let’s make it happen to me!’ Ever since then, for the past 2 years, he’s been building his clothing and fashion sense to become the best anyone has ever seen.
“I also wear my clothing to influence people to dress how they want and not worry about other peoples opinions, as long as it makes you happy, then that’s all that matters.” Carney says.
Carney loves to go thrifting for his clothes. Not only does he save his money, but he finds the best gems in these shops that you would never been able to find elsewhere. He enjoys going to Depop as well, only needing to put in his unique style and finding the accessories to put his outfits together. He also uses Shein or other small business shops.
Overtime, Carneys style has changed tremendously. He used to wear basic clothing that was really only comfortable, but he wanted to switch some things up. In 10th grade, he tried create more fashionable outfits with the things he found around his room, color coordinating his stuff, but it didn’t seem like it was enough for him. He decided to do an entire rebrand during the summer, going into 11th grade. He fully committed to his new era of clothes.
“I believe you can find your own style, at your own pace,” Carney says.
Mirabito and Carney both found what they can wear in order to express themselves. Finding your own unique and different personal style may be hard, but it can surely become a nice way to know yourself better.
