The Lake Shore High School Drama Club is inviting you to tumble down a rabbit hole this weekend with its production of Alice in Wonderland, adapted by Anne Coulter Martens. After months of rehearsals and preparation, the cast is ready to bring the world of Wonderland to the Lake Shore High School stage.
If you are unfamiliar with the story, Alice in Wonderland is about a little girl named Alice who chases a white rabbit down a rabbit hole, which lands her in a wacky and mysterious place called Wonderland. There she meets a grinning cat who watches over her as she delves deeper into the land, trying to find her way back home.
The production opened on Thursday Night and continues Friday at 7 PM and Saturday at 2 PM in the Lake Shore High School auditorium. Tickets are $5 for students and senior citizens, $10 for adults.
Senior Maura Turpin, who plays the Mad Hatter, shares that being a part of her first high school play has been a bittersweet experience. She said, “It feels cool and sad knowing that I didn’t join and do these plays sooner.” Turpin also shared that her favorite part of playing this was “being able to act goofy and have that fun personality.” She closed with encouraging underclassmen to do theatre and said, “Don’t be nervous AT ALL. Just have fun, go with the flow, and do your best.”
Freshman Jennifer Kaijala, who plays the gryphon, said her first high school play has been “great” and that she loved “getting to know all the cool people and just getting to do the play and stuff.” She would also encourage her peers to take part in theatre. Kaijala said,” I think theatre is really fun and a great way to connect with people.”
This production features a cast of 23 students, 2 dedicated stage managers, and an experienced and devoted director. From memories with friends and hand-painted sets, you don’t want to miss your chance to join the Lake Shore Drama Club on a journey through a rabbit hole. So make sure you come and experience all they have to offer this week, Thursday through Saturday, as they hope to see you in Wonderland.
