The transfer rule has affected many high school student athletes, including an athlete at Lake Shore High School, senior, De’Angelo White. White was one of these athletes that had to go a year without playing the sport that he loves.
White transferred to Lake Shore High School during the 2022-2023 school year. He had his eyes on playing for the boys basketball team but did not see this transfer rule heading towards him.
“The transfer rule affected me because I came from a different school, and I really didn’t understand the transfer rule when I first came here,” White said.
White is a very hard working student at Lake Shore High School and manages to keep his grades and school in order.
White has high hopes for the team since he will be part of it. He said, “I do think the team will do better with me this year,we’re going to be pretty tough, no one will want to play us”.
White was at every game even when he couldn’t play. He would always still support the team and show up to team practice. If White wasn’t on the bench with his team, you would see him at the top recording film for his team and cheering them on.
“I am definitely excited for this year,” White said.
You can tell he is very excited to be back playing basketball for the team he calls family. During the summer, White was still working on his game apart from the team. When the team had summer workouts he was always there, even while juggling work and other obligations.
White expressed some goals and expectations he had for this year with the team.
He said, “My goals and expectations for this year is to provide the things we didn’t have last year, so the team can be better overall.”
Missing basketball for a whole year is not easy to deal with or even sitting on the bench watching your team stress and lose the games. White has very high expectations for this year’s basketball team and is excited to be back on the court.
