Playing high school sports can be one of the most exciting and rewarding experiences during high school but unfortunately many players deal with injuries throughout those years, some more severe than others yet they all affect the player in some way.
Varsity Junior guard, Adam Rach, who tore his ACL and meniscus while going for a layup during a game said, “My injury affected me pretty badly, it was very depressing, the minute it happened I just knew I was done knowing my junior year is really important in recruiting.”
Rach, a starter and one of the team’s leading scorers at the time of the injury, was a big piece to the team’s early season success, with Rach injured and out for the rest of the season the Lake Shore boy’s basketball team struggled in his absence .
While being injured, Rach still made an effort to show his support to the team, “To stay involved with the team I just tried my hardest to cheer them on and go to every game to show the boys I care about them.” he said.
Just like many athletes who encounter injuries while playing high school sports, Rach, in the beginning, didn’t deal with it good.
Rach said, “I was very sad and disappointed, but my family and friends helped me not think about it.”
Having a support system can be one of the most important things to high school athletes, especially during the recovery process and getting back to action.
Rach added, “ my thought process while recovering is, I just know I’m gonna be better and stronger than I was before.”
Rach’s determination to be better and stronger than he was before speaks volumes about his character and dedication not only himself but the team. The team will be looking forward to having Rach back on the court and contributing scoring along with leadership.
With the Boy’s season officially ended, Rach will also be looking forward to returning to the team this upcoming fall in hopes to have a stellar senior season and go on a run with his team.
