Ultimate Summer Hits of 2024

Ultimate Summer Hits of 2024

Summer is right around the corner, and that means no more school! For this long break, you can go to the beach, hang out with friends, walk, or even just sit outside with a nice book. These activities would be boring if they were dead silent. Lucky for you, I made a playlist that fits with any summer activity!

Here are ten songs that feel like every student’s favorite time of year, summer!

“Espresso” – Sabrina Carpenter
“Espresso” is an upbeat song stuck in everyone’s heads recently. It is trending on TikTok. Users are lip-syncing the lyrics, “I’m working late, ’cause I’m a singer.” Carpenter is all for girl power, and this song reflects that.

“Good Luck, Babe!” – Chappell Roan
“Good Luck, Babe!” is a song all about taking a bad situation and using it to take the opportunity to find your authentic self. Being yourself is so important in life, and bad situations should not stop you from that.

“BIRDS OF A FEATHER” – Billie Eilish
Summer is full of free time for most, and a highlight is spending your time hanging out with friends. Billie Eilish wrote this song about friendship, and it is the perfect summer friendship anthem.

“Silk Chiffon” – MUNA & Phoebe Bridgers
“Like, life’s so fun, life’s so fun,” is the iconic line from the MUNA song “Silk Chiffon.” Summer is the time to be carefree, and this song reflects that principle. Songs can be written into deep metaphors, or just simply like this!

“Summer Nights – From Grease” – John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John
We cannot forget the song that shaped many adults’ childhoods! Although we have just reached summer, it is also important to remember that eventually, we have to go back to school in the fall. “Summer Nights” is a song that reflects all the fun during summer and telling friends about any adventures!

“Mr. Brightside” – The Killers
Anyone who went to a Lake Shore football game last fall knew that this song was played every time. Overall, “Mr. Brightside” is super upbeat, but the lyrics can be sad if you read into them. It is a good lesson that anyone can take a sad situation and make it more enjoyable!

“Unwritten” – Natasha Bedingfield
This past winter, Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell starred in a summertime romantic comedy, and it revived the twenty-year-old pop song, “Unwritten.” With this song gaining popularity again, it stuck out to some specific people. The Lake Shore High School Class of 2024 declared “Unwritten” as their class song, which was featured in the senior video played at graduation.

“Murder on the Dancefloor” – Sophie Ellis-Bextor
Another popular movie released in this past year was Saltburn, and the song “Murder on the Dancefloor” was featured. The character Oliver was dancing around a house and having so much fun, which led to people on TikTok making videos inspired by the scene.

“Mr. Blue Sky” – Electric Light Orchestra
Although rain is helpful in many ways, everyone loves a blue sky during summer! “Mr. Blue Sky” is a fun and upbeat song that can make everyone happy. Also, this song has been featured in many movies like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Paul Blart: Mall Cop, and The Super Mario Bros. Who doesn’t like a funny movie?

“But Daddy I Love Him” – Taylor Swift
Sometimes, we need a good sad song that doesn’t have a low and slow tempo. In “But Daddy I Love Him,” Swift talks about a forbidden relationship and it is a song you could sing with the windows down. Swift’s fanbase, “Swifties,” was shocked when the song first came out. The chorus sings, “I’m having his baby / No, I’m not, but you should see your faces.” Who knew Swift was a trickster like that?

All of these songs are unique in their own way, but they all reflect the best parts of summertime. Are there any songs you believe should be on this list?
