As the festive season approaches, Christmas songs fill the air, creating a cheerful atmosphere. However, not everyone agrees on which songs are holiday hits. Students and teachers shared their least favorite Christmas songs and why.
Senior Donovan Kidd finds “Do They Know It’s Christmas” uninspiring, saying it “is really just a boring song.” He thinks the song is dated and overplayed.
Nick McParland, senior, dislikes the repetition of “Twelve Days of Christmas,” saying there’s “no need for explanation; the song’s so repetitive and horrible.” Senior Micah Simpson also said “Twelve Days of Christmas” is the worst Christmas song. He said, “You know it just sounds goofy.” He doesn’t like the lyrics or the repetitive nature of the song.
To get a different generational perspective, we spoke with teacher KariAnn Wu, who said that she finds Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” overplayed, saying, “I don’t like Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You.’ I think it gets annoying and overplayed. She has a good voice, but I just don’t like hearing it all the time.”
And let’s not forget math teacher Christopher Mantela, who personally doesn’t like “Last Christmas.” Mantela said, “It’s gotten so overplayed that I don’t like hearing it anymore.”
These responses show how diverse opinions on Christmas songs can be. While some find joy in classic tunes, others find them repetitive or irritating. It’s clear that when it comes to holiday music at Lake Shore High School, everyone has different tastes.
