The 2026 summer is fast approaching as the school year comes to a close. With no more schoolwork, the students plan to keep busy.
Plans for the summer can vary a lot for different people. Jack Bommarito, senior, said, “Well, I think I’m going to hang out with my friends and prepare for Oakland over the summer.”
“I have two babysitting jobs for the summer, and I’m gonna tutor kids at the summer school,” said freshman Maya Chapman.
Senior Anna Koroleva said, “I’m excited for summer but also nervous about it being my last high school summer.”
Our freshmen gave mixed and different answers.
“I’m gonna tan and be on the beach all summer or with friends,” said Riley Fernhout, freshman.
Freshman Dominick McGuffie said, “I’m gonna be on four wheelers all summer and going to fairs like the Algonac fair, hang out with friends and be out a lot, but also train for basketball.”
Students are most looking forward to “not having to go to school,” said Fernhout.
Mia Hawk, freshman, said, “One thing I have to do this summer, no matter what, is have a pool party and invite all my friends over.”
Chapman said, “My perfect summer day would be me going to a beach and taking a nap on the beach.”
Bommarito said, “Something new I wanna try is taking a road trip, but I also have to get my license.”
“I’m planning on staying busy. I don’t want a day off,” said freshman Bennett Shock.
Chapman said, “I plan on getting a job over the summer.”
Lots of students have traveling plans for the summer. Hawk said, “I’m traveling to Myrtle Beach this summer for a week, so that will be fun and I’m excited for it.”
McGuffie also said, “Well, I’m going to California, LA. My dad is gonna be working there for a bit, so I’m going with him, and I’m going to New York over the summer. I’m paying for my ticket for New York, though.”
Summer plans have definitely changed for most students compared to last year. Chapman said, “Last summer I did absolutely nothing, so I plan on doing more this summer.”
Fernhout says, “I think summer goes by way too fast, like they should give us more time, you know?”
Hawk said, “The best part of summer is the first week and the worst part is the last part.”
Fernhout also said, “Summer makes me really happy, no sadness at all, it helps my mood and my mental health because it’s more free than school.”
If Fernhout could describe her summer in three words, she said, “Lit, happy, and fun.”
Music can make or break the vibe of this summer, the song of the summer, according to Shock, is “ ‘The Spins’ by Mac Miller for sure.”
Summer can be all over the place, and everyone has their own plans, but make sure you stay safe and get enough sun and sleep.
