High school is new and interesting, and transitioning from middle school to high school can be difficult. Freshmen sometimes struggle with the transition; let’s see how our freshmen at Lakeshore High School’s year went.
Freshman Maya Chapman said, “My first year of high school was challenging, but I got the hang of it fast. I liked all the new things and experiences. I loved being able to do track and participate in the school events like homecoming and football games. It was definitely a change from middle school, but I really enjoyed my first year here. I hope next year will be just as good even though I’m switching schools.”
Not everyone can agree with this take, though. Freshman Alexis Birch said, “I liked my first year of high school; it’s just hard to grasp some of the changes that happen, though, like, certain people change so much when high school starts, which is okay; it just sucks, but I enjoyed getting to play high school soccer, and I love being on the team and getting to do what I enjoy. Some classes were difficult, though, like biology; it kinda just depends, though, on what type of learner you are because some people get it and others don’t.”
Sports are a big part of high school and are highly enjoyed; high school allows doing way more different sports than middle school.
Another big change from middle school is the new classes like drama, our CTE classes (intro to build, marketing and sales, etc.), swim, lifeguarding, drawing and design, Greek mythology, and German.
Mia Hawk, a freshman, said, “I really enjoyed high school; it was a bit tough because high school, in a way, brings out people’s true colors and shows who they truly are as a person. So you gain some friends and lose some, but other than that I got to do the school musicals, which I love, and be a part of Fusion, which is choir but with dancing.”
The opportunities that come with being placed in a broader environment open new ideas, new challenges, and new experiences.
