As the school year comes to an end, many seniors at Lake Shore are getting ready to take their next steps after graduation. While some students are excited for new opportunities, others admit they are nervous about leaving behind the familiar routine and memories of high school. From college plans to favorite moments with friends, the Class of 2026 is looking forward while reflecting on their time at Lake Shore.
Noah VanCoppenolle plans to attend the University of Michigan to study kinesiology and hopes to later earn a degree in sports management. VanCoppenolle said, “I feel both excited and nervous about leaving for college”. He also mentioned that he is very well prepared for the change and future. One of his favorite moments of high school was spending time in Joey’s basement with all his friends.
Madison Spry shared that she plans to attend Macomb Community College to study teaching. Spry said, “I feel nervous about being in a different environment.” Spry is very well prepared for classes in the fall. She says her favorite memory was watching the football games each Friday.
Izabella Salkowski is attending Saint Clair Community College in the fall to study business after graduation. Unlike many other seniors, Salkowski said, “I am fully prepared for the future and very excited to branch out.” She shared her favorite memories, which included watching football games and walking to friends’ houses after school.
Carly Best also plans to attend Macomb Community College. Best said, “I am more nervous than excited but I am super prepared, and I’ve got all my classes scheduled.” Her favorite memory was joining the hockey team and being a part of the program.
Jacob Bartolomeo is attending Macomb Community College to study Climate Control Technology through the HVAC program. Bartolomeo said, “I feel excited but nervous it’ll be boring without my friends in my classes”. He added he knows people already in HVAC and that is helping him feel more prepared for the future. His favorite memory was winning districts with the baseball team last year.
Although every senior has a different goal and emotions about graduation, many share the same excitement for a new beginning and appreciation for the memories they made at Lake Shore. Whether students are heading to college, trade school, or the work force, the Class of 2026 is ready to begin the next chapter of their lives.
