The Lake Shore wrestling team had an unforgettable season this year. The team pushed through long practices and tough competitions with many Lake Shore wrestlers reaching the state level.
Junior captain, Tommy Leahy, led the way, coming home with a state title. Leahy described the moment as “unreal”. Although his title didn’t come easy, Leahy spent the summer training at camps and competing with top wrestlers to prepare for the season. But it wasn’t only the summer training that prepared him. Leahy said, “My coaches just believing in me just gave me motivation to keep doing what I’m doing.” Leahy hopes to continue wrestling in college, possibly at Alma College.
Junior Tyson Taylor, also made an impact competing at states. He said, “Competing at states felt really cool, like surreal.” Taylor is focused on becoming faster, gaining strength and working hard. Throughout the season, he stayed motivated by his coaches and teammates.
Senior captain, Collin Taylor, also played a major role in the team’s success this season. Taylor said his favorite memory was competing at states with his teammates and spending the weekend together. He said, “There has been a lot of things I’ve done but states was my favorite.”
To prepare for states, the state wrestlers pushed themselves by attending different practices with high level wrestlers from other programs. The extra work they put in paid off.
With strong leadership and dedication from all the wrestlers on the team, the Lake Shore wrestling team proved that their hard work made it all worth it. As the season comes to an end, the team leaves behind a legacy of success.
