Track season has already begun, and I think it’s safe to say that they have a strong start. The track team has had two meets so far, at Marysville and Sterling Heights, and they went into their first meet with confidence.
Sophomore Madison Hayward said, “100% I think I’m gonna place first.”
Freshman Amelia Thomson said, “For the 100, yes, for the 300, no, probably not, but I’m gonna still give it my best.”
At the Marysville meet, Lake Shore lost by 24 points for the boys’ varsity team and 50 points for the girls’ varsity team. But even though they lost, they had a great meet. Everyone was where they were supposed to be, they made their events on time, and they helped set up and put away the hurdles. It was a lot less chaotic than the first meets usually are. The coaches were very proud.
Coach Jacqueline Phillips said, “We had a great time at the first meet. I think, um, they did a great job, even though we didn’t win either meet. I think overall, people acted like it was probably towards the end of the season and not the beginning of the season, so we were very encouraged by that.”
At the second meet at Sterling Heights this past Tuesday, Lake Shore won by 14 points against Sterling Heights for the boys’ varsity team and 37 points for the girls’ varsity team. Against Warren Woods, Lake Shore won by 67 points for the boys and five points for the girls. The team did very well at this meet and made a great effort; everyone was so proud of each other.
In any race, a strong start usually means a strong finish, and it is undeniable that our track team started strong. So let’s hope they can keep it up for the rest of the season.
