As Lake Shore baseball season starts, players from different grades are discussing how they improved and what they expect this year. Overall, the team is hoping to keep getting better as the season goes on.
Sophomore Chase Saputo said one thing he’s improved from last season is his fielding. This is Saputo’s first year on varsity, he said, “Being on a varsity team has made me more of a team player.“
Junior Carter Bondy said he’s grown by stepping into a bigger role this year. He admitted he feels more pressure now because he is an upperclassman. He said, “Being able to control my emotions” was one of the biggest things he has improved in the last couple of years. Bondy will continue to play next year for his senior year, but doesn’t plan on going to college.
Senior Liam Taylor feels confident about the team this year. He said, “I think it will turn out better than when it started, and I think we will finish above 500.” He also pointed out that hitting has been a weakness and that the team needs to improve their performance on the plate and cut down on strikeouts.
Senior Zach Center agreed, saying one of the team’s strengths is their defense, but hitting is something they need to work on. He said, “Baseball has improved my physical skills by developing my strength and reacting time.” Like the others on the team, he believes the team has a lot of room for improvement.
Overall, the Lake Shore baseball team knows they have things to work on, but they are all still very motivated and ready to improve throughout the season.
