As the 2023-2024 University of Michigan football season got underway, the Wolverines started and finished the season strong, undefeated.
The Wolverines emerged victorious against East Carolina 30-3, UNLV 35-7, Bowling Green 31-6, Rutgers 31-7, Nebraska 45-7, Minnesota 52-10, Indiana 52-7, Michigan State 49-0, Purdue 41-13, Penn State 24-15, Maryland 31-24, Ohio State 30-24, Iowa 26-0, Alabama 27-20, and Washington 34-13.
Over the season, the Wolverines were hungry for a national championship. They did just that in the 2024 CFP National Championship. There were many highlights during the game. An article from SportingNews.com elaborates on this by going quarter by quarter. A graphic from the article shows that in quarters one, two, three, and four respectively, the U of M Wolverines scored 14, three, three, and 14 points, leading to a final score of 34 for the Wolverines. Their opponents Washington, managed to score three, seven, and three points, leading to a final score of thirteen.
The game lasted from the first touchdown at 7:52 P.M. by Michigan Wolverines running back Donovan Edwards. Eventually, after a 3-hour and 6-minute game, at 10:58 P.M., the Michigan Wolverines running back Blake Corum caught the ball and ran his hardest to the end zone, leading to a 7-yard touchdown. This 7-point touchdown was the final one in the game, leading to a final score of 34-13.
Julie Roda, LSHS Mathematics teacher, and department head said, “I’m pleased about it. In the 2024 CFP National Championship, both the U of M Wolverines and their opponents the Washington Huskies were undefeated, as the Huskies went 14-1 during their season, and the Wolverines went 15-0. So, from the beginning, I knew this matchup would be one for the record books.”
This reaction shows that people will support their local sports teams.
Andrew Creson, senior, said, “I’m a Michigan State fan, but I’m happy for any Michigan team’s success.”
Even though some people aren’t U of M Football fans, Michigan citizens will still support their home teams.
Let’s wish the U of M football the best of luck in the next season and hope that they can defend their CFP Championship title.
