At Lake Shore High School, there are a variety of options for winter sports. With the weather cooling down, tensions are building up at an all-time high. Shorians are on their toes wondering what is next to come and hoping their school’s team will succeed.
The basketball team is off to a great start this season starting 5-1 and the whole team is very confident about the rest of the season.
Senior, Steven Likins said, “I’m confident about this season. I think we have a good team that can win a lot of games.”
The guys think they can go far this year and win districts. After that their goal is regionals and maybe even states. But it will be hard to win districts considering they have a top 20 team in the state De La Salle that they’ll have to play.
Likins said, “I think we have a chance to win districts this year considering we are hosting but it’s going to be a hard district to win.”
This team is very experienced, gaining the intangibles they desperately needed over the offseason. The Shorians definitely aren’t perfect, they have lots of stuff they have to improve on.
Steven Likins, said, “We’ve played good defense so far for the most part and everybody plays off of each other but we need to work on getting more skibidi rebounds.”
The team definitely needs to improve to win districts and eventually states.
Our cheer team had their first competition on Friday the 13th and they took second place. They still had a good competition but bounced bac the next week with a win . They are looking to have another great season with a back-to-back district-winning season in the last two years and are hoping to push into regionals and eventually win it all in states. Senior Teressa Leahy said “ Im not sure how our seasons going to go yet but were always looking to go as far states.
With the wrestling team starting hot with a 4-0 start they look forward to going to states.
Collin Taylor, junior, said, “I think our bond that we have as wrestlers with each other is really good.”
“ I feel like if we really lock in we could go to team states.”
The Wrestlers have been practicing hard and consistently and have been a top prospect in the district. The entire team is solid all the way around with three seniors, eight juniors, and a ton of sophomores. With the experience that the seniors have, the younger grades have a bright future ahead of them.
Overall Lake Shore winter sports are looking to bounce back from last year, and have great seasons across all of their winter sports. They are all off to get a great start and if they stay focused they will be sure to achieve their goals of making a deep playoff run.
