As competition season is coming, the Lake Shore Varsity Cheer team is ready to hit the mat with everything they have. We interviewed many of the seniors to get their input. This year carries a special bond, closing off their final high school season.
When asked how cheer has affected them, most seniors stated that the sport has shaped their high school experience. Aubrey Alison said, “I’m definitely going to miss it because I’ve been cheering my whole High School Career, and it’s a big part of my life. Most of my friends I met through cheer, so they’re really important people to me.”
For the seniors, this season carries so much meaning. Lyla Card said, “Yes, I’m going to miss it, and I’m excited it’s my last year, but also sad and nervous for the future.”
Jaydah Brown said, “Yeah, I’m gonna miss cheer, I feel like it’s a bittersweet moment because I love cheer so much. It’s just like an era coming to an end.”
Senior Alexis Migliori said, “Yes, I’m going to miss cheer a lot. I have a lot of emotions about this year being my last. I am very excited to move on and graduate, but super sad to lose the bond I’ve made with the girls.”
Overall, cheer made a huge impact on these girls by creating a sisterhood and a family that they can always remember. The seniors all have mutual feelings about the cheer season coming to an end and them going their separate ways.
We asked Coach Taormina if she’s excited about the upcoming season she said, “Very, very much so, we get to reveal our new uniforms, and I’m really excited to get back to our lead because we came second pretty much every year we’ve been in the white so far, and it’s really annoying, and I’m ready to seal the deal this time. We will get a ’26 on the banner, hopefully.”
Taormina also explained some of the team’s upcoming plans, with a focus on building strength and confidence. With several athletes returning and motivated seniors, this season is going to be better than ever. The Lake Shore High School Competitive cheer team has several upcoming competitions, and we are excited to start the season.
If you are interested in supporting our Competitive Cheer Team, the first home game is the CCCAM Scholarship Invite taking place on Friday, December 12, around 6 pm. The second home competition is Saturday, January 24th, at 10 am, which is a Shorian Invite Competition. Lastly, the MAC White Meet #2 is on Wednesday, February 11th at 6 pm. This is the last home competition of this season, which will mean a lot to the senior girls.
With their last season coming to an end, the seniors on the cheer team reflect on their years of teamwork and dedication. From after-school practices to late-night competitions which they created a sisterhood towards each other. As they prepare to take the mat for the last time, their legacy of commitment and school spirit will continue to inspire the next generation of cheerleaders.
