This year’s District Art Show will be on April 23rd, next Thursday, going from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. It will feature artwork in various mediums such as paint, colored pencil, printmaking, ceramics and more from grades K-12.
The District Art Show is run by the art teachers at Lake Shore, one of them being Ms. Kamis, who said, “It’s a wonderful opportunity to showcase the Lake Shore Public Schools’ talents and creativity, and I’m really looking forward to it.”
There is a lot the teachers need to do in preparation for the art show. “We actually start preparing for the show the previous year, planning out the dates, and making sure that all the art teachers are on the same page. It’s a lot of work to get everything prepared, matted, typing up the labels, getting all the walls together because we use movable walls,” said Kamis.
When it comes to selecting which artwork will be featured, Kamis said, “It’s up to the individual teachers, and then we also have an open call to students in the high school where they can submit pieces that they’ve done outside of school during the school year.”
If you are still deciding whether or not you will go to the art show, there will be cookies there for anyone attending, and Kamis said it is a good way to “support the visual art students of Lake Shore and to see all the amazing things that are being created in our classes.”
