What happened to B lunch?
Lake Shore High School has always had three lunches. Currently, there has been a decision to remove B lunch from our schedule and split up everyone in that lunch to A and C. There have been tons of assumptions and rumors as to why this has happened.
While a lot of students were frustrated or confused at first, the main reason behind this change was that students were skipping class. William Puvalowski, Dean of Students, said things have been going better since B lunch was removed. “A lot of students are staying in all three lunches and not heading back to class; with B lunch removed, this problem has reduced a lot.”
B lunch created a gap in the middle of the day, which created an opportunity for students to leave class and not return. Puvalowski also said, “We have had time to clean up the tables and get everything back into order for the next lunch. It has also made it easier on teachers so they do not have to stop teaching their classes.”
Removing this lunch has changed things for the better, as the administration has decided to continue this and bring it into the next school year. “So far, students and teachers have had a good response to the change. At first, some students had some complaints, but for the most part, everyone is used to it now,” Puvalowski said.
Another concern was safety. Schools are the ones held accountable for us, and if students are missing throughout the day, it becomes harder for staff to keep track of everyone and to make sure they’re okay. If a student leaves campus without a permission slip or being called out, this could lead to multiple bad situations.
In the end, removing B lunch wasn’t to punish the students; it was meant to help solve problems and help make our school a better place. Even a small change can determine someone’s grades and attendance.
