With the upcoming summer season, people will have more and more time to become bored. Going to movie theaters with friends or family is one of the main ways to cure this boredom. Featured here are some of the most anticipated movies for the summer.

Starting with some movies that are already out, Fast X was released a couple of weeks ago. Obviously, Fast X is a continuation of the Fast and Furious series. It includes the iconic members of the cast: Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Sung Kang, Tyrese Gibson, and Jordana Brewster with the inclusion of Jason Momoa, John Cena, and Brie Larson. It is speculated that this will not be the last movie in the franchise, there will be a Fast X Part 2 premiering in 2025.

Just recently, The Little Mermaid was also released in theaters. It’s been a highly anticipated film for most of the year and the reviews have been mixed. Its cast includes Halle Bailey (Ariel), Jonah Hauer-King (Prince Eric), Melissa McCarthy (Ursula), Javier Bardem (King Triton), etc. With a live-action remake, there will always be people who impossibly try to compare it to the original, that’s inevitable, but many believe it should be appreciated all on its own.

Another new summer Disney movie, and a good movie to take your younger siblings to, is the new Disney and Pixar movie Elemental. It’s supposed to be somewhat of a romantic animated comedy between two different personified elements, fire and water.

The sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has just been released. With the success and reception of the first one, the second has been on many people’s watchlists. It includes the same cast as the initial movie, the characters from the Multiverse, plus new ones. Viewers are excited to see and fall in love with the new multiverse characters that are going to be introduced.

The biggest contrasting releases this summer are Barbie and Oppenheimer. Both movies are directed by very prominent directors, have been talked about the most, and they are the ones all types of fans are most excited about seeing. However, they couldn’t be more different. Oppenheimer, directed by Christopher Nolan, is about J Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy), the physicist who was the “father of the atomic bomb” in the Manhattan Project. Barbie, on the other hand, is about the dolls Barbie and Ken (Margot Robbie/Ryan Gosling), living through both Barbie Land and then taking a trip to the “Real World,” all directed by Greta Gerwig. Both films are releasing on the same day, July 21st. Most people are planning to go do a double feature to watch both upcoming movies.

Wes Anderson is one of the most talented and popular directors. His latest film, Asteroid City, is set to come out later in June. It includes such a star-studded cast, so many that it’s too many names to include in this article. The film is set in a desert town in the 90s, with an amusing plotline, all in Anderson’s iconic stylistic cinematography.

The final movie both in this article and in the Indiana Jones series, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, will be first released this June. Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones is returning for the conclusion, with the addition of the great actors: Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, and Antonio Banderas.

So many intriguing, diverse, and exciting movies are being released over these summer months.  All of these new movies will give anyone something fun and exciting to look forward to on top of other summer plans.
